Leadership vision to focus on innovation and collaboration to prevent diabetic blindness.

PENSACOLA, FL – Feb. 20, 2019– Intelligent Retinal Imaging Systems (IRIS), the leading diabetic retinal exam (DRE) program for primary care, announced today that it has appointed Steve Martin as its new chief executive officer (CEO). Martin, an industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience in healthcare technology, previously served as IRIS’ chief commercial officer since early 2018.

“The IRIS mission of saving sight carries a human significance that very few other companies have as their foundation,” Martin said. “I truly believe in our mission and it is why I chose to join this organization, I am very proud to lead this team as we help our clients and their patients identify disease and save sight.”

Prior to joining IRIS, Martin served as senior vice president of sales for Emmi Solutions, a patient engagement technology company that was acquired by Wolters Kluwer in 2016. Martin has held senior sales roles at Merge Healthcare and Allscripts and was part of the executive management team at Extended Care Information Network, which was acquired by Allscripts. He also currently serves as a board director for Telemedicine Solutions.

Martin replaces outgoing interim CEO, Chris Belmont. Under Belmont’s tenure as the interim CEO during a transitional period in 2018, IRIS identified its 50,000thpatient with sight-threatening retinal disease that would have led to blindness had the disease remained undetected. Belmont served on IRIS’ initial Board of Advisors and helped it grow from a startup to a fully-fledged company, making his former involvement and knowledge of IRIS a key advantage to help grow the company last year. Prior to joining IRIS as the CEO, Belmont served some of the world’s most respected patient care organizations, including roles as senior vice president and chief information officer (CIO) of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and CIO and senior vice president of Ochsner Health System.

“IRIS has been close to my heart since I became an advisor in the early years,” said Belmont. “Steve [Martin] has been a critical component to our growth and transformation durning my tenure. He will be a great leader for this company and I can’t wait to watch IRIS’ success under his leadership as they pursue the mission to end preventable blindness and improve healthcare delivery. It has been an honor to be a part of the IRIS team over the past year and I will always be around to help if needed.”

IRIS recently celebrated its fifth anniversary and has added more than 100 new client sites in the past year, while expanding its footprint with existing customers, additing additional sites for more than 10 large healthcare organizations.
